On Friday, August 21, 2009, ISHI held its first fundraiser at Cubanu Restaurant in Rahway, New Jersey. Set to the sounds of salsa music, guests dined, wined, and danced the night away in the Zaggat-rated Cuban lounge. Beginning with a full-course meal, during which volunteer surgeon Diego Reino spoke about the upcoming mission to Guatemala and ISHI’s future goals, then evening then took a turn for the Latin with a group Salsa and Merengue lesson. All the while, party-goers browsed through a silent auction that featured such items as New York Giants tickets, a vintner’s selection wine-and-cheese basket, passes to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, a certificate for a spa day, and more. The night was capped off by a dance competition and a 50/50 raffle. ISHI would like to thank Cubanu Restaurant for hosting the evening, Diego Reino for his hard work and inspiration, and all the guests for their continuing support and generosity.
